Dawson County Humane Society Hosts Grand Opening Event This Weekend

The Dawson County Humane Society is pleased to celebrate its grand opening with all kinds of family and pet activities this Sunday, May 25, 2008, 10 am - 4 pm, at Rock Creek Park in Dawsonville.

Grand Opening Festivities include:

  • Dog Obedience and Agility Exhibitions
  • Pet Contests from 2-4 p.m. for $5 entry fee (largest, smallest, most spots, best singer, best owner look-alike, best trick, cutest and ugliest)
  • Micro Chipping Clinic for $20
  • Face Painting
  • Vendors
  • Adoption Center Tours
  • Food 
  • Much, Much More 

Admission to the Dawson County Humane Society grand opening event is free and it's open to all to come and enjoy. 

The Dawson County Humane Society is also hosting a dog walk-a-thon to raise money for homeless pets in our county, and the Humane Society needs your help. Come and enjoy a leisurely one-mile stroll around Rock Creek Park while you raise funds for our furry friends. Walkers are encouraged to collect pledges from their friends, family and places of business.

Walkers raising over $100 dollars will receive a T-shirt and treat bag, and prizes will be awarded to recognize outstanding walkers and waggers. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 9:30 a.m., and the walk begins at 10 a.m.

Dog Walk Guidelines:
•All dogs must have current vaccinations.
•All dogs must be leashed and under control at all times.
•Aggressive dogs or females in heat are strongly discouraged.
•Feline friends and puppies under six months of age are better left at home.
•Walkers are expected to clean up after their dogs. Bags will be provided.
