Founder of Dawsonville Humanitarian Organization Heads to Iraq

Dr. Ben Mathes, President of Rivers of the World, an international development/humanitarian organization based in Dawsonville, is headed to Iraq to be embedded with the 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat team 4th platoon as a journalist. 

The platoon commander is 2nd Lt. Nick Beazley, a former ROW staff member who joined up to serve.  Dr. Mathes will be shooting the embed in 1080i high definition and will have a broadband global area network to conduct call-ins and send photos back from the front line. 

Dr. Mathes leaves for Iraq on April 19 and will return on May 8. In 2006, Dr. Mathes was embedded for three weeks with his Marine son, 1st Lt. Adam Mathes, USMC serving on his second tour.
