Upcoming Events at Dawson County Library
Read Across America • March 1, 2007
Children of all ages are invited to Dawson County Library to celebrate Dr Seuss’s birthday. We will make Cat in the Hat hats, play Yertle the Turtle toss, and eat yummy birthday cake. Join us March 1, 2007 from 3-4 PM at Dawson County Library.
Outdoor Forest Opportunities • Tuesday, March 13from 1-2 PM

Spring is right around the corner, and it is time to be thinking about outdoor activities. Did you ever want to explore the NorthGeorgiaMountains but were not sure where to start or have run out of new ideas? This seminar will offer students an opportunity to get ideas on how to enjoy hiking trails and various locations in and around DawsonCounty. Learn about the unique landscape of the NorthGeorgiaMountains and all of its beauty. Students will also learn about tree identification. Handouts will be available for additional information. The seminar will end with a short question and answer session. Space is limited so please sign up by March 10 by calling the Dawson County Library at 706-344-3690.
St. Patrick’s Day Storytime • Wednesday, March 14 from 3:30-4:15.
Put on your favorite green shirt, socks –even shoes – and join us for a special story time celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Come celebrate with the library leprechauns!
Tax Tips • Monday, March 19 at 6 PM

Do you have lots of questions about your current tax filing and would love to bend the ear of a CPA? This seminar will offer students information on the current tax rules and deductions. It is perfect for those who are doing their own tax filing and have questions. Come prepared to ask tax filing questions. There will be a question and answer period at the end of the seminar. Weekly Children’s Programs… will resume the week of March 20 after a 3-week planning break. The Spring session will run through April 26. Toddler Time is held on Tuesdays, Preschool Story Time on Wednesdays, and Lapsit on Thursdays. All programs start at 11 AM.
Afternoon Story Time… for children of all ages will resume the week of March 20 after a 3-week planning break. Weekly programs will be offered on Wednesdays at 3:30 PM from March 21-April 25.
Ugly Sock Creature Workshop (TAB) • Tuesday, March 20 from 3:45-5:45
You may scream in horror… you may run for your life… But you can’t escape the invasion of the ugly sock creatures! Bring your favorite pair of old, ugly – and yes – even smelly socks, and turn them into the weirdest creatures you can imagine. Needles and thread, snacks and drinks, and St. Patrick’s Day goodies will be provided by the library. This program is open to teens in grades 6–12.
TAB Meeting on Thursday, March 15 13, 2007… from 4-5 PM in the Dawson Library meeting room. Folks in grades 6-12 are invited to come and enjoy snacks and help plan upcoming events.

She visits many elementary and middle school classrooms each year, both as an author-in-residence and as a writing consultant. Lola has been an impassioned presenter for more than twenty years. Today she combines the understandings of current educational research with sound writing techniques so that teachers and students can immediately experience the benefits of successful writing communities in their classrooms.
