Pulitzer Prize Winning Photographer, Dallas Kinney, to Speak at Dawson County Library

Published May 11, 2007

Chestatee Regional Library System is kicking off a photography program series with an amazing workshop on May 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Pulitzer-prize winning photographer Dallas Kinney will be speaking at Dawson County Library, sharing his vision, knowledge and expertise.

Dallas Kinney is a proven photojournalist, writer, director of graphic arts, and Sunday features editor. As a newspaper journalist he has worked for the Washington Evening Journal, Washington, Iowa; Dubuque Telegraph Herald, Dubuque, Iowa; Palm Beach Post, Palm Beach, Fla.; Miami Herald, Miami, Fla.; and the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia, Penn. As a photojournalist, Kinney was the recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Photojournalism and the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, among others.

The program will cover:

  • Put a Camera in Your Hand — Make it Work: Nuts-and-bolts issues of making quality images with a digital camera in the attitude of classic photojournalism.
  • Photojournalism as a Perspective: Visual and emotional preparation to capture “the moment”…not just make pictures.
  • Photojournalism in the Field: Photojournalism “safari” possibilities in the Dawson County area, with interactive emphasis on how to perceive, plan and produce visual “stories;” how to confidently and courageously approach photo-subjects (both friend and foe); and how to capture and create a compelling visual “statement” that enlightens and inspires the viewer.
  • Making Those Pixels Presentable: Presentation of concepts on image preparation and presentation in a variety of visual disciplines: traditional photo-prints for the album and gallery; computer-based presentations, including CD-ROM, HTML e-mail messages, and WEB pages; and the preparation and presentation of photo stories for print and publication.

You won’t want to miss this opportunity! Join us on Monday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m. at Dawson County Library! Call 706-344-3690 to reserve your space. Additional photography workshops will be held on a monthly basis. Stay tuned for more exciting programs.
