On June 6, the Dawson County Board of Commissioners recognized Emergency Services Director Billy Thurmond for 30 years of outstanding service and dedication to the citizens of Dawson County.

Billy Thurmond’s career with the County started in 1978. Following several roles, he began work with Emergency Services in 1980 as an EMT. Thurmond later served as paramedic followed by Emergency Medical Services director. Thurmond presently serves as Emergency Services director and Emergency Management Agency director as well as deputy coroner.

He is a Certified Emergency Manager, serves on the Region II EMS Advisory Council, 911 Advisory Committee, and chairs the Dawson County Safety Committee and Dawson County Wellness Committee. Thurmond has also been named acting county manager on several occasions when needed.
