Dawson County Board of Commissioners Chairman Mike Berg was elected by leaders of the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) to serve on the 95-year-old association’s Board of Managers. Berg was sworn in as a member of the ACCG board in Savannah, at the group’s 2008 Annual Meeting on Tuesday, April 29. Additionally, Berg will continue to serve on the ACCG executive committee.
“I was humbled to be placed on the Board of Managers by my peers representing District Two (North Georgia) and further, as one of five to continue to serve on the Executive Committee,” said Berg. “Both offices give Dawson County Citizens more recognition and prominence in Commission and State policies,” he continued.
As a member of the ACCG Board of Managers, Berg will play a vital role in developing key public policy goals of all 159 Georgia county governing authorities. He will work closely with the other 36 Board of Managers to guide the direction of the Association’s policy agenda for 2009.
ACCG is recognized as a national leader in legislative advocacy on a wide range of county issues, especially reflecting the concerns of property taxpaying citizens. ACCG’s activities, on the state and federal levels, promote public policy goals to facilitate better county government, as well as better intergovernmental relations on behalf of all levels of government.
In addition to policy and legislative direction, ACCG conducts commissioners’ education and training programs, co-administered with the nationally recognized leader in public policy education, The University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute. The association also operates comprehensive insurance and risk management programs for county governments, statewide.
