For Appalachian Community Bank, bringing back customer-focused banking to Dawson County is the primary focus of the bank’s regional president, Greg Gordon.
“We are all about our customers and our community,” states Gordon. “Most of our customers live here in the community and we all live here in the community, too. As bankers we get to know our community, citizens, and businesses as well as or better than anybody else. We try to bring quality service to our customers in the community. Because the employees at Appalachian live in the community and are involved in community activities, school and church, they are able to build relationships and establish trust with other members of the community. People who have experienced Appalachian’s personal style of banking, know they are appreciated.” Gordon has been a banker in Dawsonville for more than 20 years.
Quality service can mean different things to different people but at Appalachian, quality service means being able to sit down with your banker and discuss things and have the banker understand and determine what best suits the customers’ needs. “We are about tailoring to our customers’ needs from checking accounts to loans,” said Gordon, “not about offering one or two products and if it’s not what you need, saying sorry, we can’t help you.” Appalachian Community Bank offers on-site decision making. According to Gordon, “If the banker here tells a person something, they can bank on it. We look for ways to get it done.”
Appalachian Community Banks offers a full line of banking products and services for both personal and business needs. Free business checking accounts are offered as well as high yield money market accounts earning up to 5 ¼ per cent.
In July, Appalachian Community Bank will open a conference center located at the Main Street branch. The conference center may be used by the community for meetings, reunions, wedding receptions and other civic events. The center is technically functional and offers a kitchen and patio area. Appalachian Marketing Representative Angela Daniel acknowledges that the bank is “taking a first step in the economic development of downtown Dawsonville.”
Appalachian Community Bank is firmly entrenched in the Dawson County community as its name implies. The banking team is involved in organizations including the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Kiwanis, Rotary, American Red Cross, as well as several other civic organizations. Appalachian actively contributes to Dawson County schools with an annual $5000 Fund for Educational Advancement.
“Our mission,” according to Gordon, “is to bring back the traditional community banking service that has been lost in Dawson County due to banking mergers and acquisitions.”
